Title 1: Building Engineering and Disease Transmission
Title 2: Environmental pathogen forensic and disease investigation

Duration – 3 years

Funding - The scholarship covers UCL registration fees and provides a stipend of £15,290 per annum tax free for candidates from the UK and other countries in the EEA. Travel expenses and research equipment will also be paid for.
Project Details - Applications are invited for two PhD studentships in the Healthy Infrastructure Research Centre (HIRC) http://www-research.cege.ucl.ac.uk/KMGroup/index.html. The overall aim of the projects is to transform current and to design future infrastructure to tackle pathogens in the environment, like flu, SARS, TB and many other new and emerging diseases. These studentships are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK.
Start Date - These posts will be available from January 2011

Requirements
The applicants should be highly motivated and imaginative, with at least a 2:1 honours degree in, Title 1 - Environmental Engineering or Building Engineering. Knowledge and skills in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and building monitoring are preferable.
Title 2 – Environmental Engineering or Applied Chemistry and Biology. Knowledge and skills in GCMS, HPLC and PCR are preferable.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues at UCL and other research partners and industries linked to the HIRC network.
