4th Newsletter
Welcome to our 4th E-newsletter. This has been another busy quarter for IBPSA-England.
1. Our joint event with the CIBSE Building Simulation and Natural Ventilation groups on 24th May was a great success. Hosted by UCL and attracting 165 delegates, this event looked at the important topic of modelling natural and mixed-mode ventilation. We are grateful to our sponsors Monodraught, IES and EDSL. Thank you to those who supported this event. The presentations are currently being processed and linked with the recorded video. These will be made available on-line soon. We will let you know when and where to find it.
2. The newly appointed board met in the evening of 24th May and the following officers were duly elected: Malcolm Cook (Chair and first affiliate representative), Naveen Hamza (Vice-chair and second affiliate representative), Pieter De Wilde (Secretary), Dejan Mumovic (Webmaster)
3. The Approved Documents for Building Regulations Part L: Conservation of Fuel and Power has been officially released, details of which can be found on: http://www.communities.gov.uk/planningandbuilding/buildingregulations/buildingregulationspublications/ BRegs Part L 2010 will officially come into force on 1st October 2010. The latest Approved Documents can be downloaded from the Planning Portal at: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/professionals/buildingregs/technicalguidance/bcapproveddocumentslist/ To accompany the implementation of Building Regulation Part L, the latest non-domestic National Calculation Methodology (NCM) modelling (www.2010ncm.bre.co.uk) has also been officially released. These changes will affect both SBEM and DSM software, which are anticipated to undergo significant changes. For the latest update on government approved software, please go to: http://www.ukreg-accreditation.org/ND-ApprovedSoftware.php
4. To celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games here in the UK, IBPSA-England board members are editing a Special Issue of the Journal of Building Performance Simulation which invites contributions which address the building performance of Olympic venues – especially those for London 2012 – across the different building simulation domains: thermal behaviour (energy and comfort), ventilation and air flow, lighting, fire and evacuation and acoustics. A call for papers for this special issue can be found on our website at www.ibpsa-england.org
5. It is not too late to vote for the new IBPSA-World board if you have not already done so (see details attached). Please send your ballots directly to Gerhard.Zweifel@hslu.ch
