E-NEWSLETTER July 2009
Dear IBPSA-England member
Welcome to the first of our new E-newsletters. Our aim is to issue one newsletter per quarter (July, October, January and April). Although these notes are likely to evolve, our intention is to keep them 'short and sweet' initially, enabling all you busy people to scan through the items in 1-2 mins. Here are our notes for July 2009.
1. BS09 in Glasgow is now upon us. A programme can now be downloaded at http://www.bs2009.org.uk/
2. At BS09 there will be a special session on the use of Building Simulation in School Building Design on Wednesday 29th July. See programme at http://www.bs2009.org.uk/
3. The Student modelling competition, run by IBPSA_England was won by: Georgia Tech University (group award), and Mohamed Hamdy Hassan of Helsinki University of Technology (individual award) Both will be displaying their work in Glasgow so please take the time to look at this award-winning work.
4. We have begun to collate information on "centres of excellence" around the country which identifies institutions involved in building performance modelling and simulation. Click here for more details http://www.ibpsa-england.org/centres-of-excellence If yours is missing, please let us know and provide a web link with 3-4 lines describing your centre/group.
5. Many of you will have heard about the forthcoming changes to building regulations parts L (Conservation of Fuel and Power) and Part F (Ventilation). To accompany Part L, there will also be updates to SAP and SBEM. Details of these consultation documents can be found at: http://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/planningandbuilding/partlf2010consultation www.bre.co.uk/sap2009 www.2010ncm.bre.co.uk
If anyone wishes to make any comments about the proposed changes, please let me know by Friday 21 August. I will collate any responses and forward them on to the relevant parties responsible for developing the regulations.
6. The next IBPSA-England event will be at Anglia Ruskin University in October 2009, although we hope to see many of you in Glasgow at the end of this month.
Kind RegardsDr Malcolm Cook
