SaBRE

SaBRE
A joint venture between the University of Sheffield and the Building Research Establishment
SaBRE, based at the University of Sheffield brings together expertise on the built environment from both the School of Architecture and the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering.
Services to Industry
SaBRE provides a range of services to industry, including collaborative research, consultancy, expert witness, testing and analysis, product development. In addition to these services SaBRE provides a gateway to the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
Research in Structural Engineering
At the applied level the research with industry focuses on extending the limits of structural design, and in developing innovative forms of construction. Researchers make use of a variety of advanced analytical modelling and experimental methods. Currently, the main areas of activity are:

  • Computational Mechanics and Design

  • Solid Mechanics

  • Steel and Composite Structures

  • Concrete Engineering

  • Vibration Engineering

  • Blast and Impact Dynamics

Research in Architecture
The Environment and Structures Research Group is concerned with the environmental and structural performance of buildings and the impact of this performance on people. Research strengths within the group are in the areas of sustainability, energy, acoustics, lighting, ventilation, fire and structures.
Training and Events
SaBRE provides access to BRE training courses a number of which will soon be available in Sheffield
