Pieter de Wilde,
the immediate past chair of the Affiliate Region has recently authored this key publication in the field of building performance analysis and publication, which was published by Wiley last summer with a book signing session took place at the Building Simulation and Optimization 2018 Conference in Cambridge in September.
The subject of the book, building performance, is an important yet surprisingly complex concept. The book presents a comprehensive and systematic overview of this topic. It provides a working definition of building performance, and an in-depth discussion of the role building performance plays throughout the building life cycle. The book also explores the perspectives of various stakeholders, the functions of buildings, performance requirements, performance quantification (both predicted and measured), criteria for success, and the challenges of using performance analysis in practice.
For more information about the book please go to this webinar , presented by the author on 31 May 2018 and posted on the IBPSA University YouTube channel. The book can be purchased directly from the publisher, via the major online retailers, and of course via your local bookseller. Members of IBPSA-England are offered a 20% discount on the book when ordering directly from the publisher at www.wiley.com.

A warm welcome to the delegates of Building Simulation & Optimization, the 4thIBPSA-England conference. IBPSA-England launched its first conference in 2012 at Loughborough University. Since then, it is held biennially. It has grown to have an international reputation and attracts participants from both research and industry. IBPSA-England was founded in 2006 to advance and promote the science of building performance simulation. Our goal is to constantly evolve the development of simulation science to support energy efficiency, health, and environment of new and existing buildings. The IBPSA-England organization also serves as a forum for the exchange of information between researchers and practitioners through networking events and workshops.
It is a pleasure to host the community of building simulationists at University of Cambridge. We have a range of exciting new work that widens the scope of simulation to new applications in human-centric design of buildings, innovative design processes, and large-scale modelling. On behalf of the organizing committee,I wish you both a pleasant and productive time in Cambridge.

Chair of IBPSA England & Conference Chair
We are now welcoming abstract submissions for the 2018 BSO conference.

You are encouraged to submit abstracts of papers on main conference themes:

New building performance simulation methods (e.g., energy, comfort, daylighting, airflow, air quality)
New approaches for optimizing design and operation
New decision support methods for real world applications (e.g., design, compliance, commissioning, predictive control, retrofit)
Advances in model calibration, uncertainty analysis, and validation methods
Occupant behaviour modelling
Urban- and district-scale simulation of energy and environment Innovative applications of simulation in practice
For abstract submission you are asked to write:

(1) Objectives of your paper (up to 150 words)

(2) Methods & Key Outcomes (up to 200 words), and

(3) Novelty (up to 150 words)

Abstracts will be evaluated based on suitability of the topic to BSO themes, significance of the work in the targeting context, technical merit of investigated method(s), and novelty of the work.

All abstracts should be submitted online via BSO 2018 ConfTool
